Flocks of sheep are visible all across the Italian countryside, learn about special huts used by shepherds for hundreds of years. A city that is young by Italian standards, found 800 years ago, L’Aquila has been devastated by earthquakes more than once. Having been used since the fifteenth century, Trabocchi are fishing platforms in an area that is known as Costa dei Trabocchi. The main platforms suspended over deep water are accessed by narrow walkways that many times look like planks laid down by kids over a ditch. Known as “Citta del Miracolo”, Lanciano is more than a religious pilgrimage site. This town hugs the side of the hill overlooking the valley below. |
